"Sorry I'm late, Mom. I lost track of time." said my son. It wasn't until several years later that I understood he was telling me the truth, and not an excuse. The ADHD truth.
"Where do I need to take the kids?" asked my then husband, while calling me on a Google phone with the Google Calendar and the directions I had already set up for him. Living in the now. The ADHD symptom.
"Why are there candy and gum wrappers in your drawer?' - and not in the conveniently located garbage can - I inquired of my daughter. Too many irrelevant steps... in an artistically wired ADHD brain.
They all three have ADHD, inattentive type. I did not understand it then the way I do now.
I modeled the behaviors and habits. I labeled and color-coded, bought watches, alarm clocks and calendars...and nothing seemed to work.
